Other Sheep Fundraising Efforts Around the Country

For all of us at the chapter, our first priority will always be Putting and Keeping Sheep on the Mountains of California. Our GALAD effort is making great strides in doing that. However, occasional other organizations around the country are undertaking causes we feel you might want to be aware of.

Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society (ADBSS)
The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society has volunteered to help Region 4 with at least one 1,000-gallon water trailer to join the Region 4 fleet. The ADBSS Board approved funding half of the cost of trailer, contingent on the other half coming from grants and donations.

Why is ADBSS doing this?
Arizona’s summer and fall 2020 were extremely dry. The Arizona Game and Fish Department, partnering with several wildlife conservation groups, hauled water to wildlife water catchments throughout the state for many months last year and into this year. Water catchments ran dry during this time, and wildlife suffered. Region 4, in southwest Arizona, hauled over 230,000 gallons of water last year, even though most of the water catchments were full after winter and spring rains. Zero summer rain through August caused this high demand. Region 4 does not have any water trucks; they rely solely on 1000-gallon water trailers and one small military- surplus water buffalo.
